Security Guard Christopher Viliamu Loses License

A former security worker, Christopher Viliamu, has had his license revoked after multiple violent convictions, including assaulting a child.

The Private Security Personnel Licensing Authority (PSPLA) ruled against Viliamu on February 12, 2025, following a complaint by the NZ Police. His certificate of approval was immediately canceled, effectively banning him from working in security.

Police first raised concerns about Viliamu in October 2022 when he was charged with assault with intent to injure. Despite being on bail, he reoffended—this time, committing common assault and assaulting a child.

On December 23, 2024, Viliamu was convicted on all charges and sentenced to:
✔ 70 hours of community work
✔ 6 months of community detention

The PSPLA found these convictions made him unfit for security work, where professionals are expected to de-escalate situations rather than resort to violence.

Viliamu failed to attend the PSPLA hearing or submit any response to defend himself. He also did not request a waiver to avoid automatic disqualification under Section 62 of the Private Security Personnel and Private Investigators Act 2010.

The Authority ruled that:
✅ His security license was canceled immediately
✅ He must return his security ID within seven days

The case highlights the strict stance regulators are taking against security personnel who fail to meet ethical and legal standards. Employers in the security sector should take note—hiring workers with violent tendencies is a direct risk to public safety and company reputation.
